Ghana have struck up talks with a trio of English clubs in an effort to have key players available for their upcoming friendlies against Mexico and USA.

The Black Stars are set to face Mexico on June 29 and the USA on July 1 in international friendly matches in North America.

New coach James Kwesi Appiah is hoping to have the strongest possible side available, though the fact that the games fall outside of a FIFA window means clubs are under no obligation to release players.

Ghana are hoping to have Jordan Ayew (Swansea City), Andre Ayew (West Ham United) and Daniel Amartey (Leicester City) for the matches, but their FA has received negative communication from the players’ respective clubs.

“We have received letters from the clubs of Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Daniel Amartey asking us to exclude them for the friendlies against Mexico and USA,” GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie is quoted by GHANASoccernet.

“We are talking and engaging with the English clubs to get them to release or approve of us using the three players for the important friendlies.”

The three players are all key figures for the Ghana national team and played in their 5-0 win over Ethiopia in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier earlier this month.
