NCC sets new bidding deadline for acquisition of 9mobile

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that the new deadline to conclude bidding for the acquisition of 9Mobile is Jan. 16, as against Dec. 31, 2017, the former date.

The Director, Public Affairs of NCC, Mr Tony Ojobo, said that the extension was because there had not been any preferred bidder for the acquisition of 9Mobile in a statement on Friday.

Ojobo said that an approval of the request for extension of time by the 9Mobile Interim Board was given by the two regulators, NCC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He said that the approval set the deadline for the receipt of biding offers from the prospective bidders till Jan. 16, 2018.

“Our attention has been drawn to newspaper publications alleging that a preferred bidder has been anointed to acquire 9Mobile and otherwise speculating on the outcome of the ownership transfer process.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to provide clarification that Barclays Africa remains in full control of the process leading to the emergence of a new owner for the company.

“Barclays has not authorised any publication on the matter and is obliged to maintain full confidentiality thereon.

“Contrary to speculations that a winner will be announced on the same day (Jan.16), we wish to clarify that Barclays is expected to review the bids received by the deadline and to make recommendations to the 9Mobile Interim Board thereafter,’’ Ojobo said.

He said that the NCC and the CBN would be duly notified once the 9Mobile Interim Board accepted Barclays’ recommendations and a winning bid was determined in accordance with the terms of the exercise.

According to him, the winner will now apply to NCC, in order to commence the processes for securing the regulatory approvals necessary for full effect of the transfer. (NAN)

President Buhari stated this when he received the board of directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group at the State House in Abuja, on Monday, January 22, adding that the initial economic challenge posed by recession was already dwindling, with the economy smarting out and posting better results on falling inflation rates, higher foreign reserve and better ranking on ease of doing business.

He assured Nigerians that the rising attacks on communities by herdsmen will soon be brought under control by security forces deployed to the vulnerable areas across the country.

WHO donates 853 motorcycles to Nigerian govt for disease surveillance

The World Health Organisation, WHO, on Monday donated 853 motorcycles to the Nigerian government to strengthen diseases surveillance across the country.

WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr Wondi Alemu, while presenting the motorcycles to the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, in Abuja, said the donation was aimed at building a highly sensitive and robust system to rapidly detect and respond to diseases of epidemic potential.

According to him, “Diseases Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) play a major role in active surveillance at the field level through visits to communities and health facilities, as well as in linking with key community informants.

“They also facilitate timely investigation and response to outbreaks where they occur; this group of professionals deserves to be provided with the most appropriate logistics to enhance their mobility,” he said.

Alemu further urged the minister to ensure that the motorcycles were properly maintained and put to good use.

In his remark, Prof. Adewole commended the WHO country representative for the gesture and acknowledged that disease surveillance was critical for public health maintenance.

“When we are able to detect and respond appropriately, we will be able to curtail the spread of diseases and maintain good health across the nation.

“The 853 motorcycles that have been donated will certainly be used by DSNOs in appropriate manner.

“They will also be utilised effectively to help detect disease outbreaks.

“It is important for us to know and detect outbreaks promptly because when we do not know on time, diseases will spread.

“So, with good and early notification, we will investigate and make appropriate diagnosis and be able to respond accordingly,” the Minister said.

How to get Schengen visa in Nigeria

To date, most European states are part of the Schengen zone. This means that if you want to enter these countries it is necessary to obtain a Schengen visa, which gives the right to navigate freely through their territory. However, such concepts as the “Schengen zone” and the “Schengen agreement” should not be confused. Not all countries that signed the Schengen Agreement abolished passport control when crossing their borders, which means that the Schengen visa does not apply to them. If you are interested in the requirements for Schengen visa application in Nigeria just read the post to get valuable information.

Which countries are covered by the Schengen visa?

Thus, the operation of the Schengen visa nowadays extends to 26 European countries:

  1. Hungary
  2. Austria
  3. Spain
  4. Belgium
  5. Greece (Athos is not included)
  6. Latvia
  7. Germany
  8. Denmark (not including Greenland and the Faroe Islands)
  9. Iceland
  10. Kingdom of the Netherlands
  11. Malta
  12. Italy
  13. Lithuania
  14. The Principality of Liechtenstein
  15. Norway
  16. Luxembourg
  17. Sweden
  18. The Czech Republic
  19. Slovakia
  20. France
  21. Poland
  22. Finland
  23. Slovenia
  24. Switzerland
  25. Portugal
  26. Estonia

In fact, the Schengen area also includes three mini-states: the Vatican, Monaco, and San Marino. In addition, there is no border control with the Schengen countries in Andorra. Special attention should be paid to the fact that the UK and Ireland, signatories of the Schengen Agreement, refused to enter the Schengen area, and therefore the Schengen visa does not apply to these states.

What types of Schengen visa exist?

Schengen is divided into several categories that differ in purpose and duration of the trip:

  • Category A — for transit through the airport. Gives the right to stay only in the airport for the flight to a third country.
  • Category B — for transit through the Schengen zone on land transport. Grants the right to stay in the Schengen territory for up to 5 days.
  • Category C is the main type for any short trips. It allows you to stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in the last six months for tourism, business trips, personal visits, etc. In addition, the C category is divided into 4 types, which have a different “action corridor” (ie the time at which the document can be used, not to be confused with the number of days of stay.):
  1. C1 — has a validity period of up to 30 days;
  2. C2 — validity period of six months;
  3. C3 — visa for a year;
  4. C4 — Schengen visa for a period of up to 5 years.

Each type of short-term visa can be single, double or multiple (MULTI). This means that you can make only one trip on a single document, but if you have a multi-visa Schengen — you can enter the zone an unlimited number of times, the main thing is not to exceed the permitted period of stay (90 days per half-year).

  • Category D is a national long-term visa that is issued for up to 5 years. On it, you will be able to live in the country that issued it for more than 90 days, and in other Schengen countries, the restrictions of 3 months will be valid again. Getting it is longer, harder and more expensive than usual. It is issued, as a rule, for the purposes of training, doing business, etc.
  • Category LTV — issued very rarely, gives the right to visit only one particular country with a short visit.

What documents do I need to apply for a Schengen visa?

The list of documents and requirements for obtaining a Schengen visa vary depending on which country you want to obtain a visa, but there is a standard package common to all, which can differ only in certain areas. It includes:

  1. A valid national passport.
  2. Two photographs.
  3. A certificate from the place of employment with the indication of the position, salary and insurance policy.
  4. Completed application form.
  5. Confirmation of financial status.
  6. Documents confirming the purpose of the trip (guest or business invitation, tickets, and hotel reservation, if available).
  7. For minors, consent from parents is required to leave the country.
  8. Pensioners and the unemployed must provide a sponsorship letter and documents on the financial status of the sponsor.
  9. It is also necessary to remember that each country has its own requirement for the availability of funds when crossing the border. If you have an insufficient amount on hand, there is a possibility that you will not be missed at the customs even if you have a visa. Also, if you have a big amount of undeclared money, you can have troubles at the customs as well.

Where to get a Schengen visa?

You can get a Schengen visa not only in the consular section of the embassy of the country, through which you plan to enter the Schengen area. Appeal to the embassy is the most difficult and troublesome option, which requires a lot of time, but is least expensive.

Most embassies require a personal presence when submitting documents and obtaining a passport. In addition, the probability of rejection is high because of the applicant’s ignorance of all requirements, and also because of avoidable mistakes that can be made when completing the questionnaire. In addition, the submission of documents is carried out by appointment, and during the peak season, the waiting period may drag on for a month or more.

Obtaining a Schengen visa through a specialized visa center is a safer option, as in the visa center you can get the necessary advice, as well as order additional services. However, the visa center will not always be able to suggest the correct solution in difficult situations, In addition to the consular fee, you will also pay a service fee and all additional services.

If you are going to make a Schengen visa through a travel agency, you need to know that having prepaid tickets and booking a hotel does not serve as a guarantee for obtaining a visa. Many countries in the Schengen area generally do not recommend paying any tickets or tours to get a visa. No travel agency can guarantee you a visa, and you would be refused, the money will not be returned in full.

Travel diary

The most reliable option is to contact a specialized company that provides professional assistance in obtaining a Schengen visa. Such companies have extensive experience in applying for a Schengen visa in all countries of the Schengen area. Contacting a specialized company will help you avoid mistakes in filling out documents, and also save a lot of time and nerves. Also, this option is relevant if you need to get an urgent Schengen visa. The cost of the services of such companies is quite comparable with the cost of making a visa through the visa center.

Travel checklist

Choose the place for obtaining the visa which is the most suitable for you, prepare all necessary documents and visa fee. We wish you good luck with your visa application.
